Intro to Yoga

If you are looking to start practicing yoga but do not know where to start or maybe you just started practicing and want to deepen your knowledge, this workshop is for you. This will be a 4 week workshop where we will learn basic postures, how to breathe, flow basics and healthy stretching. Maria Garcia will guide you through and hour long practice where we will explore all the yoga fundamentals and build solid foundations to have a healthy lifelong practice.

It is highly recommended that you sign up for the four sessions but drop ins are also welcome.

Week 1: BASIC POSTURES (ASANA): We will learn and explore basic yoga postures like 'warrior 1' and 'warrior 2', 'cobra', 'cat', 'cow', forward folds and so forth. We will go through their foundations, alignment, muscle engagement and how to modify each pose.

Week 1: BREATH WORK (PRANAYAMA): We will learn how to properly breathe to support our practice. We will explore various types of breath, how to use them and the effect they have on our bodies learning how to use them during a yoga class and in everyday life.

Week 2: FLOW BASICS (ASANA+BREATH): We will learn how to connect the breath and the movement. We will move from pose to pose using our breath as the guide.

Week 2: HEALTHY STRETCHING: We will learn how to stretch our bodies the right way so we protect our muscles and joints during a yoga class.
